蒼蠅們從開著的窗子飛進來，
我的眼睛遂成為一個不愉快的巡邏者。
「討厭的黑色的小魔鬼！
一切醜惡中之醜惡！」
我明知道我這嚴重的咒詛是徒然的。
而當我怨恨著創造了牠的上帝時，
牠們卻齊聲地唱起讚美詩來了。

The flies flew in through the open window,
my eyes hence became an unhappy patrol.
"Nasty devils tiny and black!
The ugliest among the ugliest!"
I knew perfectly, futile my severe curse was meant to be.
And while I was grudging against the God who had them created,
they began to sing the psalm in chorus.
